Collecting data from a DropBox source

These instructions can be used for both Intella and Intella Connect. The examples on this page will assume that Intella is used.

This is a quick step-by-step guide on how to generate an access code for Dropbox so it can be used to connect to a Dropbox account with Intella.

Step 1:
Make sure you have the login credentials for the Dropbox account that you want to access. If it is a business account, you must have Team administrator permissions to access the account.

Step 2:
Go to https://www.dropbox.com/developers/apps

Log into Dropbox with the credentials for the account.

Step 3:
Click Create app to register an application on Dropbox.

Step 4:
Select this API option.

Step 5:
Select access permissions:

For the type of access, choose Full Dropbox.

Step 6:
Name your app (I used IntellaDBCrawler in this example).

Step 7:
Accept the T&Cs and click the Create app button. The application is now ready to use.
Note: If no more than 500 users will access the application, it is not necessary to Apply for production.

Step 8:

Upon creating the application, a details page will be displayed.

Step 9:

Go to "Permissions" tab  and for personal Dropbox account, choose all read permissions available in "Individual scopes" section, for business Dropbox account additionally choose  all read permission available in  "Team scopes" section .

Next go to back to "Settings" tab.

Step 10:

In the OAuth2 section on this page, make sure that you set the Allow public clients (Implicit Grant & PKCE) to Allow.

Note the App key and App secret fields. They will be needed at the next step.

Step 11:

Run Intella and start the Add new source wizard. Select the Dropbox option. In the ‘Connect to Dropbox’ window, enter the App key and App secret that you saw on the previous step. Click on the ‘Generate new Access Code’ button to get the access code. You will be redirected to a browser page where you get the access code. Copy-paste it to the "Access code" field.

Step 12:

If the credentials are correct, Intella will show a screen like this. Continue through the wizard to add the source. Note that in the wizard you will get the opportunity to filter by date range, and/or file and folder for the data which is in the account.
