Collecting data from a GMail source

These instructions can be used for both Intella and Intella Connect. The examples on this page will assume that Intella is used.

This document discuss configuring the GMail API to allow access to a GMail source in Intella. In conjunction with this guide, you should also consult the Intella user manual sections for adding sources to an Intella case.

Step 1:
Go to the API Manager: https://console.developers.google.com

Step 2:

Make sure you are logged on with the account that you want to access the mail. You can check this by clicking on the avatar on the top right corner. If you are not logged on with the correct account, select the correct account from the list, or add the account manually if it is not in the list.

Step 3:

Click on the dropdown for the Project selector.

Click on the New Project button at the top right of this form.

Enter a name for the project (I used ‘Intella GMail Connector’), then click on the Create button.

Step 4:

Click on the dropdown for the Project selector again. Click on the project that we just created in the list.

You may need to enable the APIs and Services if it says that you don’t have any. Click on either the API library link at the end of the message, or on the +Enable APIs and Services button at the top.

Step 5:

This will bring you to the API library screen. Search for Gmail API in the search box at the top, then select the Gmail API option in the list.

If the API is not enabled, click on the Enable button.

In the Gmail API settings, click on the Credentials tab on the left.

Step 6:

Now we need to create your OAuth client ID. Click on the Configure Consent Screen button on the right of the credentials page.

On this page, depending on the account, only one of the options may be available. You can also click on the Create button without choosing an option.

Enter a name for the collector. Also make sure that the correct email address is shown in box below.

Once done, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the Save button.

Step 7:

Click on the Credentials tab on the left again. Then, click on the +Create Credentials button at the top. Now select the ‘OAuth client ID’ option in the list.

Use the dropdown, and select the ‘Desktop app’ option from the list.

Add a name for this ID (e.g. Intella connector). Once done, click on the Create button at the bottom.

The login credentials will be shown. Make a copy of this information in case it is needed later.

The token has now been created. Use the down arrow on the far right to download the .json file.

Now you need to go back to the OAuth consent screen tab in the menu on the left and click on the "Publish App" button.

After that, the following message will appear:

Step 8:

Now open your Intella case to add the source. Click the Sources menu, and select the Add new option. Select the Gmail option which will bring you to this screen.

Browse to the json file that you downloaded and select it. Now click on the ‘Connect to Gmail’ button.

A new tab will open in your web browser for you to confirm this connection. It may show an 'App not verified' message. If so, click on the advance button, then click on the link at the bottom to go to the Intella connector.

There may be a few windows like this that ask you to allow access to various parts of the account. Click on Allow.

Finally, Click on the Allow button on the final page.

In Intella you will see the following screen if access to the account was granted. Run through the rest of the wizard as you would normally do with any other source.
