Can Intella and Connect/Investigator be run in the cloud?

Question
Can Intella, Connect, and Investigator be run in the cloud? If so, how does the dongle work?

Answer
Yes, Intella and Connect/Investigator can be run in the cloud. There are two methods to manage licensing. This depends on if you already have a product, or if you are purchasing a new product.

  1. If you already have a product, it will be licensed via a USB dongle. The post below shows how to setup the system and dongle, and how to configure the licensing software to obtain a license from the dongle. Note that a network dongle (the red dongle) needs to be used for this method.

  2. If you are purchasing Connect new, then we have moved to a subscription model. The subscription model is licensed via a software license (SL). We recommend that the SL license is installed on a dedicated system for licensing. This can be a  physical system or a VM which is local or in the cloud. The SL can be installed on the Connect system instead of a dedicated license system. However, because the SL is tied to the hardware of the system, this can limit you on upgrading your Connect system. Changes to the system can invalidate the license.

Note that SL licenses are only available for Connect and Node. The Desktop products (e.g. Intella 10, 100, 250, Pro and Team) are licensed via a dongle only.
