Do Intella products work in a virtual machine?



Yes, Intella products can work in virtual environments, provided that the VM has been configured to not interfere with any Intella processes or networking. All requirements for Intella product installation can be found in the respective product's user manual.
To date, we have not seen any particular VMs that have not worked for our customers, unless there has been configuration issues such as improper permissions, network setup, or security-based issues.

However, please note the following:
  • We recommend, for licensing purposes, that you use either 
    A) a physical network dongle (a red dongle), or 
    B) an SL key (dongle-less, "software license" key).

    Red network dongles are designed to work over the network, from VM client(s) to the physical host. Standard dongles (green or purple dongles) can be used, however they do not have networking capabilities, you will need to configure the virtual machine where Intella is installed to access the dongle on the physical host. Vound can not provide advise or support for configuring a standard dongle in a virtual environment.

    If you plan to proceed with a dongle-less SL key, note that we strongly recommend hosting it on its own dedicated machine, separate from the machine that is hosting Intella. This is due to license invalidation issues that can happen, causing downtime and potential costs.   • There is a limitation with Hyper-V where it cannot pass through non-disk USB devices such as the HASP dongle that we use for licensing. That said, there are some workarounds listed in this post:
  • Not that Intella trials do not work in a virtual machine. A trial will need to be installed on a physical machine and it is limited to 10GB cases.
