What are the differences between Intella TEAM and Intella Investigator

There are several benefits to moving from the desktop-based Intella TEAM to the web-based Intella Investigator:

Accessibility

Intella Investigator can be accessed from anywhere through a web browser. This allows for remote collaboration.

Ease of use

As a web application, Intella Investigator does not require any software installation or configuration on reviewer machines. Reviewers can simply log in through a browser. This makes it faster and easier to get started, as opposed to having to deploy Intella TEAM software and deal with licensing on each desktop. No dongle is required for people who access the web-based interface. Only the server needs a dongle. Also copying case data to each reviewer machine is not necessary anymore.

Centralized management

With Intella Investigator, all users, cases, and review annotations are managed from a central server. Some of the key benefits of centralized management include:
  • Single sign-on (SSO) - users can sign in with the same credentials as used for other organizational services. This makes it easier for them to access the resources and cases they need without having to enter credentials multiple times.
  • Role-based access control - Administrators can assign users separate roles that control their level of access. For example, a reviewer may have access only to certain cases and functions, while an administrator has access to all areas of the system. These roles can be centrally managed. Intella TEAM did not have Role-based access controls.
  • SSL security - Intella Investigator uses SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption for all web communications between the server and administrators/reviewers. This protects sensitive data and helps ensure only authorized individuals can access the system. With Intella TEAM, encryption of data transfer depended on the mechanisms used to share files and network communication.
  • User management - All user accounts, profiles, permissions, and credentials can be conveniently administered from the Intella Investigator server interface. This central user directory can be linked to organizational directories like Active Directory as well.
  • Policy configuration - Global security, access, password, and usage policies can be established and enforced through the Intella Investigator server. All desktop clients will then comply with those centralized policies. No global policies could be set with the decentralized Intella TEAM software.
  • Audit logs - Activity logging, case access records, and user session data can be aggregated and reviewed centrally in Intella Investigator. Auditing relied more on local records with Intella TEAM and would have to be compiled across various desktops and installations.
  • Software updates - Patches, updates, and new versions of the Intella Investigator software can be deployed once on the server, and all web clients will automatically use the updated version. This simplifies change management. With Intella TEAM, software had to be manually updated on each physical install.
So, in summary, Intella Investigator provides administrators with a single point of control to manage users, security, policies, permissions, software versions, auditing, and more. This dramatically reduces the effort required compared to managing many separate Intella TEAM desktop installations.

Scalability

Intella Investigator can easily scale to support more reviewers and larger or higher volumes of data. The system requirements are handled by the central server.

  • Intella Investigator supports up to 4 concurrent users for the base license.

  • The maximum amount of actively shared cases is 2 for the base license.

  • Packages to upgrade concurrent users and shared cases are available. Reach out to sales for more information.

Intella TEAM was limited to the number of local installations and viewers that could connect to a case. While Intella Investigator also has some limits depending on licensing, it is far more scalable given its web-based, server-focused architecture.

Data security

Intella Investigator offers enterprise-level security and encryption for all data and communications since it is a centralized web service. This ensures better protection and control of sensitive digital evidence and case data. Security depended more on individual desktop protections with Intella TEAM.

Cost efficiency

A single install of Intella Investigator can serve many users, so it may have lower total cost of ownership than an Intella TEAM desktop license.

In summary, moving from Intella TEAM to the web-based Intella Investigator can provide significant benefits in terms of accessibility, usability, management, scalability, security, and potentially lower costs. The centralization and automation offered by Intella Investigator addresses many of the challenges of the desktop alternative.

Upgrade to Intella Investigator

Upgrading from Intella TEAM 2.5 to Intella Investigator 2.6 provides new features including:
  • Crawler Scripts - Intella Investigator supports the use of custom Crawler Scripts to collect, extract, or process data during indexing and case building. According to the information given, these scripts can be written in Python, Groovy, or Java and tailored to specific use cases and needs.
  • Image analysis - Intella Investigator includes integrated image analysis capabilities that allow for identification, classification, and filtering of images.
