Intella Desktop Keystore Scenario

This will be a short how to guide on how the Keystore in Intella Desktop functions and an example use case.

The section from the user manual breaking this down in detail can be found here: https://www.vound-software.com/docs/intella/2.6.1/#_supplying_access_credentials

The keystore is used to have Intella automatically decrypt any encrypted items in your sources. A variety of decryption methods can be used from simple passwords to BitLocker recovery keys. In this example we will look at an encrypted archive containing a text file.

Our text file was created and encrypted using 7Zip to set a simple password.

Now we will import this into Intella without putting in the password to show how Intella processes encrypted items. In the screenshot below you can see the search is for encrypted items inside the source of our protected archive.

When trying to preview the item in Intella we are met with this screen.

Now we will open the the Keystore in Intella and input our password. Once the password is in the Keystore, we need to re-index the source that contains the encrypted items.

*Note that passwords and other decryption phrases can be put into Intella's Keystore prior to indexing if it is known what encrypted items exist prior to indexing a source. *

Once the source has been re-indexed, we can go back and try to open the file again in Intella and we are able to read the previously encrypted text.

You now have a decrypted piece of data ready for review.
