How to install Intella Investigator or Intella Connect on a public cloud

Intella Investigator and Intella Connect are powerful eDiscovery and digital investigation tools that can be used to process and search large volumes of data. Both tools can be installed on a public cloud platform, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Microsoft Azure or other cloud providers. This offers a number of benefits, including scalability, cost savings, and accessibility.

Scalability

Public cloud platforms offer scalable resources, so you can easily scale your Intella environment up or down as needed. This is ideal for organizations that need to be able to quickly respond to changes in demand, such as during peak periods or when investigating a major incident.

Cost savings

Public cloud platforms can offer cost savings over traditional on-premises deployments. This is because you only pay for the resources that you use, and you can easily scale up or down as needed. Additionally, public cloud providers often offer discounts for long-term commitments and for using multiple services.

Accessibility

Public cloud platforms can be accessed from anywhere with an internet connection. This makes them ideal for remote teams and for organizations that need to be able to access their data from anywhere in the world.

Recommendation to use a second server for the license

Intella Investigator and Intella Connect can use a software license in the cloud and not a USB dongle. Using a software license means that the license is linked to one machine. If you migrate or change the specs of that server, the license may become invalid. For this reason, we recommend installing Intella on one server and the license on a second server. This will allow you to freely adjust the Intella server without making your license invalid.

Instructions overview

To install Intella on a public cloud platform, follow these steps:
  1. Create two VMs
Create two VMs on your public cloud platform. The first VM will be used to run Intella Investigator or Intella Connect. The second VM will be used to host the license. The two machines need to be in the same subnet and must be able to see each other.
  2. Install Intella on the first VM
Follow the instructions in the Intella installation guide to install Intella on the first VM.  For hardware specifications you can follow the same requirements from this article: Selecting a computer to host your Vound software
  3. Install the license on the second VM
Follow the instructions from the support team on how to install the license on the second VM.
  4. Configure the Intella VM to use the license
Open the Intella License Manager on the Intella VM and configure it to use the license on the second VM. You do this by adding the ip address of the license server to the license manager on the Intella VM.  More information about this step: Licensing Intella and/or Intella Connect in the cloud
  5. Start using Intella
Once you have configured the Intella VM to use the license, you can start using Intella to process and search your data.

Tips for a successful installation

Here are some additional tips for a successful Intella installation on a public cloud platform:
  • Use a high-performance VM configuration for the Intella VM.
  • Use a cloud firewall to protect your Intella environment from unauthorized access.

Conclusion

Installing Intella Investigator or Intella Connect on a public cloud platform is a good option for organizations that need a scalable, affordable, and accessible eDiscovery or digital investigation solution. By following the instructions above, you can ensure that your Intella system is properly installed and secured.
