Step 1: Check the requirements
Before installing Intella or Intella Connect, read through the recommended hardware and software requirements detailed in the 'Selecting a Computer to Host Your Intella Software' article located at the link below.
• Operating systems
Intella is supported on the following operating systems:
Windows: Server 2008 and 2012 (changes to the system may be necessary), Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 and 10.
• User account
Intella's installer should be run under Windows account possessing administrator permissions.
• Minimum and recommended hardware configuration
The minimal and recommended hardware configurations vary depending on which product you are using. See the above mentioned link for more information regarding hardware to run Intella.
• Required software
In order to index PST and OST files, Microsoft Office 2007 is no longer required to be installed on the computer same computer.
In order to index NSF files, Lotus Notes 8.5 or higher is required.
Note: If you want to export search results to PST files, Microsoft Office 2007 needs to be installed on the computer that runs Intella. Also, Intella needs to know the location of Lotus Notes in order to index NSF files.
Outlook and Lotus Notes can be validated in Intella by going to File > Preferences > and clicking on the MS Outlook or IBM Notes tab, then clicking on the Validate button.
Step 2: Learn about licenses and dongles
Notes on the trial license of the software you have downloaded:
• 14-Day evaluation period
The evaluation version runs under a HASP Software License, which gives you the ability to use Intella for 14 days. The 14 days evaluation period cannot be extended. The only way to continue using Intella is to purchase a dongle.
• Continue working with a USB dongle
If you would like to continue using Intella after this trial period, you will need to buy a license. After buying the license you will receive a USB dongle that will allow you to continue using the version you already installed.
Note: The USB dongle is shipped without a license installed. Once received, contact Support to activate the dongle for use.
• System clock?
Changing the clock on your system will cause the trial to automatically expire. If this occurs the only way to continue using Intella will be to purchase a license.
• Virtual Machines, VMware
In order to protect our intellectual property, the evaluation version, and Intella P.I. WILL NOT run in a virtual machine (VM) environment. A physical computer is required to run the evaluation version and Intella P.I.
Note: This only applies to the evaluation version and Intella P.I. A version of Intella that has a dongle will run in a VM environment.
• RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) connection
The Intella evaluation version cannot operate over an RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) connection without the dongle. A version that has a dongles can run over RDP but the dongle must be plugged into the computer which is running the Intella software (i.e. NOT plugged into the computer running the RDP-viewer software).
• Other dongle-protected software must be closed
All other HASP protected software, like EnCase (Guidance), Smart Mount (ASR Data), and HBGary products, must be closed when installing Intella.
Note: Close EnCase when installing Intella. Both Intella and EnCase protect their intellectual property rights with HASP Digital Rights Management software. As a result, a conflict will occur if both programs run simultaneously during the install of Intella.
Step 3: Install the software
The Intella trial can be downloaded through the download page on the Vound website: http://www.vound-software.com/. If you are already a customer, you can download the installer files from the Support Portal.
Note: You will need to create a support account to access the download section of the Support portal. This can be done by visiting this site http://support.vound-software.com/Default and clicking on the 'Register' button. Support accounts can take up to 24 hours to activate.
Once the installer files have been downloaded:
(1) Double-click on the installer file to launch the installer.
(2) Accept the license agreement.
(3) Enter the location to store the application files and shortcuts or accept the default settings. The default location is: C:\Program Files\Vound\Intella\. All files will be extracted to the location of your choosing and an Intella shortcut is (optionally) placed on your desktop and in your Start menu.
Note: Intella will not install in an installation directory that contains an existing version of Intella. If an earlier version of Intella is already installed on the system, install the new version of Intella in a directory with a new name. For example: If the existing version is installed in C:\Program Files\Vound\Intella-V2.0.1, create a new directory and install the new version (e.g. 2.1.1) in C:\Program Files\Vound\Intella-V2.1.1.
Once installed the application folder will contain an executable named 'Intella.exe' that can be used to launch the application. The desktop and menu shortcuts also start this executable. The program will start with the Case Manager window where you can create a new case.
Step 4: Troubleshooting installation issues
Sometimes you may encounter issues when you install Intella. Normally these issues relate to error code generated by the licensing component of intella. We have created a troubleshooting guide to help resolve these issues at the link below.
Contact Support if you have any other issue that are not in the link above.
