Running Intella/Connect on Windows Server 2008, 2012 or 2016
The reason why we say we formally do not support server 2008, 2012 and 2016, is because a number of users were having issues setting up the security of these platforms to work with Intella (e.g. changing firewall settings etc). Those users were then pushing these questions (regarding the Windows server platform) to Vound support. This meant we had to do a Webex session to fix their system for them, so that they could use Intella. There are a number of issues with this approach:
We have a number of customers running Intella on these server platforms with no issues. We actually have a 2012 server running Connect ourselves, and we have not had any issues.
Note: By default, the security settings on these server platforms are heavily locked down. It is likely that some security settings will need to be modified so that Intella/Connect can run on such platforms.
- This was a time consuming exercise, and it was not a support issue to begin with.
- It was risky, as we had to alter the platform security settings to make Intella run correctly. If they then got hacked, it may be blamed on Vound.
- Support for system settings is not part of our core business.
It should also be noted that the Windows Server editions are not recommended to be used as a workstation as they are not optimized to do so. Windows 7 will run better and faster.
